Estanislao, Saraza upstage fancied foes

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Daniel Estanislao III and Chloe Mae Saraza of National Capital Region came away with a pair of reversals over their respective fancied rivals to barge into the semifinal round of the third Olivarez Cup Age Group 2013 at the Olivarez Sports Center in Sucat yesterday.

The sixth-ranked Estanislao, who dropped just one game on his way to the quarters, sustained his top form and beat second seed Cesar Salimbangon, 6-1, 6-2, to arrange a Final Four showdown with No. 3 Sebastian Santos in the 10-unisex division of the event presented by Palawan Pawnshop and held in honor of former Parañaque Mayor Dr. Pablo Olivarez.

The in-form Santos, also impressive with a spotless record in two matches, overpowered Alfredo Doloroso, 6-0, 6-0, in the tournament sponsored by Dunlop Sports, Stronghold Insurance, FedEx Air21 and Olivarez Sports Center.

Action in the centerpiece Open division, meanwhile, fires off today with matches in the ladies singles, featuring top seed Marinel Rudas, No. 2 Clarice Patrimonio, third seed Marian Capadocia and fourth ranked Aileen Rogan.

Davis Cupper Johnny Arcilla, on the other hand, headlines the star-studded men’s field that includes second seed defending champion Vicente Anasta, No. 3 Patrick Tierro, fourth seed Rolando Rue Jr., No. 5 Roel Capangpangan and sixth-ranked Ronard Joven.

Top seed Diego Dayrit booted out Amanda Zoleta, 6-3, 6-1, to set up the other semis duel in 10-unisex with No. 4 Miguel Vicencio, who dominated Sebastian Lhuillier, 6-0, 6-3.

The unranked Saraza, on the other hand, broke No. 3 Alexie Santos thrice en route to a 6-3, 6-4 for a spot in the semis of the girls’ 14-U class.

She will take on Coleen Sioson next after the second seeded bet survived Bianca Cruz, 1-6, 6-3, 12-10.
