Unilab holds two events to showcase active lifestyle

MANILA, Philippines - United Laboratories Inc. (Unilab) has sheduled two running events to be held within a week of each other as it underscores its capability to organize sports spectacles aimed at helping people progress in their active lifestyle.

The events, to be held under the auspices of Unilab’s Unilab Active Health (ULAH) series, serve as the “arena” where participants challenge themselves to outdo their last performance, according to ULAH head Alex Panlilio, also operations vice president of Unilab Consumer Healthcare Group.

 The first TriUnited 1 in 2013, a triathlon event that offers endurance challenges that involve swimming, biking and sprint, is scheduled on Sunday at Subic Bay, while Run United 1, a running event, will be held a week later at Mall of Asia grounds.

“These twin events indicate the seriousness of Unilab Active Health in undertaking sports events as part of our vision in providing a venue where people can continuously test themselves in selected sports activities in order to help them live an active lifestyle,” Panlilio said. “What we want is to push the envelope on matters pertaining to the health of our stakeholders.”

ULAH had a spectacular finish in its staging of the Run United, now considered as one of the most awaited running event in Metro Manila, and the Tri-United series last year as it indicated the continuing advocacy of the region’s pharmaceutical powerhouse on an active health style.

After the Subic event 10, the second stage will be held on July 7 at Laiya, Batangas. Handling Run United is Rio dela Cruz, who expects the number of participants to swell to 12,500.

There was a record turnout in the two events that Panlilio expects 12,000 runners competing in the Run United, already on its second year, and 600 entries in the triathlon event that was first held four years ago.

The running event features races in the 500m, 5K, 10K and 21K categories. The 3K race has been taken out in response to the growing number of participants who are opting to run longer distances.

Through the years, ULAH organizers observed that a lot of runners have already leveled up and have advanced to the longer distances. Overseeing the Tri United event is Raul Cuevas of Bike King who expects about 600 to participate.
