La Salle sweeps Ateneo for third straight UAAP volley crown

MANILA, Philippines – The De La Salle University Lady Spikers showed championship poise in wrapping up its best-of-three series against rival Ateneo, a 25-23, 25-20, 25-16, to cop their third consecutive UAAP women’s volleyball championship at the MOA Arena tonight.

Displaying the same resolve that they showcased in taking the series opener, the Lady Spikers banked on the solid performances of co-MVPs Ara Galang and Abi Marano, eventual Finals MVP Michele Gumabao and sophomore Mika Reyes.

Reyes spearheaded the Taft-based squad with 16 points, including seven blocks.

It was La Salle’s eight women’s volleyball title, becoming the third winningest team in the league in a tie with University of the Philippines.
