Barcelon-Briones tops Eagle Ridge monthly

MANILA, Philippines - Willy Barcelon and Jimmy Briones combined for a tournament low net 49 to cop the Division 3 crown in the February monthly competition for members of the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club in Gen. Trias, Cavite recently.

Carrying a combined handicap of 35, Barcelon and Briones turned in a gross of 84 and prevailed over the tandem of Rene Abundo and Rommel Valloyas by two net strokes in the 18-hole event at the Norman and Faldo courses of the 72-hole complex.

The seniors crown went to Oscar Patricio and Roland Dizon who carded a net 50 for a two-shot win over Reynaldo Silverio-Eli Drapiza while Ji Yeon-yeom and Min Jung-kim took the women’s plum, finishing three shots ahead of Rose Johnsen-Maricris Choi with their net 51.

Youn Hwan-an and Kyung Young-jung captured the Division I crown with a 59 with Toshio Kudo-Yoshikazu Onodera placing second with a 60. In Division 2, Byung Won-seo and Soon Wook-byen tallied a 52 and John Agustin-Jimmy Suelo scored 56 for the top two places.

In the Valentine’s tourney for couples at the Norman course that drew 38 pairs, Tae Bong-park and Myung Ja-jea finished with the lowest net of 59, seven ahead of Bart and Cathy Borja and eight up on Bud and Linda Goble.

The country’s biggest golf complex is preparing for another fun-filled summer with a major inter-collegiate volleyball competition next month.
