AMA Titans rule SPUBL open

MANILA, Philippines - AMA University captured the men’s and women’s titles in the 2013 St. Paul University Basketball League Open Championship.

The AMA Titans swept the elimination and semifinals before beating the Wolfpack, 119-70, to claim the men’s crown. The Lady Titans also swept the eliminations and semis before scoring a 70-55 victory over the Tigers, a team of former UST Tigresses, for the ladies title.

Titan Archie Bansil was named most valuable player while Stacey Salajog was ladies MVP. Joining her in the Mythical Five was Angie Ballesteros.

Both teams are coached by AMA head of basketball operations Mark Herrera, who is assisted by Edwin Ancheta, Benjie Diswe and Eugene Bautista.

Herrera’s basketball program, which includes a junior team, is supported by AMA U team owner Amable Aguiluz, first vice president Arnel Hibo, team manager Aldric Manrique and school director Ricky Bustamante.
