UB Brahmans reign in PRISAA caging

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - University of Batangas battled back from 22 points down as the Region IV representative beat the Region I side, 103-87, to annex the National Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) men’s basketball crown in Lingayen, Pangasinan recently.

The Brahmans took the half at 51-42 but faltered and fell behind at resumption of the contest before guard Kevin Medrano and center Edzel Mag-Isa took over and led the team past the regional host.

The Brahmans also posted a come-from-behind victory in the semis, foiling Region 12 to set up a title clash with Region I.

“We had the toughest challenge in the semis but the boys’ hard work and dedication paid off. They gave it their best and they deserved to win,” said UB assistant coach Dan Acero.

Mag-Isa and Medrano, along with teammate Roel Rodavia, made it to the league’s Mythical 5.

“It was a fulfilling win. Everybody contributed and it’s really our dream to win this one. It’s also a fitting gift to our graduating players,” said Medrano who also bagged the MVP honors.

The win was the Brahmans’ first in the annual sporting meet after representing Region 4-A for two consecutive years.
