China seeks explanation from WADA

The Philippine Star

BEIJING (AP) — China's General Administration of Sport says it is seeking clarification from the World Anti-Doping Agency regarding comments attributed to WADA director general David Howman saying the country is the source of most raw materials needed for banned performance-enhancing substances.

The official Xinhua News Agency reported Tuesday that China's anti-doping chief Jiang Zhixue wants a detailed explanation from WADA for the comments Howman reportedly made last week.

Jiang was quoted as saying: "There are problems, such as illegal sale of banned drugs through the Internet. So we have decided to launch an investigation into WADA's allegation."

Calls to the State General Administration of Sport were not answered Tuesday.
