Dungca dominates Ebdane 4x4 Challenge

MANILA, Philippines - Pampanga’s Edison Dungca topped the third Gov. Jun Ebdane 4x4 Challenge in Iba, Zambales last Sunday to gain the headstart in this year’s National Association of Filipino Offroaders (NAsFOr) Driver of the Year race.

Dungca clocked a total time of 37 minutes and 36:24 seconds on the three technically-demanding courses that tested both man and machine, according to Eric Matibag, head of the Zambales Sports and Youth Development Office that organized the event.

Bicol’s Roger Peyra finished second in 39:08:49 while Jojo Javier, also of Pampanga, wound up third in 40:30:39 in the two-day event that drew 23 drivers and their crew from various off-road clubs in the country.

The lone female racer, Maila Alivia of Isabela, showed a lot of promise and finished fourth with 43:56:06, nosing out veteran Pol Herrera of Bulacan, who rounded out the top five in 44:01:30.

“It was a very tough course, especially Track A of the elimination rounds,” said Dungca. “You really have to give all you’ve got, or else you won’t survive this race.”
