MANILA, Philippines - Executives and employees of Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), including three department heads, joined the Condura Skyway Marathon held recently at Filinvest, Alabang.

Smart Internet marketing head Lloyd Manaloto and tax department head Rina Manuel finished the 42K run, while postpaid department head Kathy Carag ran 21K.

Smart employees have been very active in marathons and triathlons, joining grueling events such as IronMan 70.3 and the Bataan Death March 160K Ultra Marathon.

“I admire the discipline and enthusiasm of Smart’s athletes. They all have demanding jobs, but they prove that work-life balance is achievable. I am proud to say that these employees live by Smart’s Live More manifesto,” said Smart’s chief wireless advisor Orlando Vea.

Smart has a number of clubs for sports lovers, such as Samahang Mananakbo ng Smart (SMS), Smart Triathlon Club, Smart Cycling Club, Smart Mountaineering Club, and Smart Futbol Club.

Manuel said she received a lot of training tips and encouragement from her colleagues at the SMS.

“My Smart officemates also supported me by giving pledges for my run-for-a-cause. They donated an amount for every kilometer I finished, for the benefit of school children under the Tahanan ng Panginoon Educational Assistance Program (TEAP),” she added.

Manaloto said he also received encouragement from officemates who run. He added that technology helped him train for the marathon.

“I read marathon training programs over the Internet, used mobile applications such as RunKeeper, and kept a training diary in my iPhone to track my progress,” he said.
