La Salle pulls off shocker over FEU in Dickies-FCBL

MANILA, Philippines - Tricia Piatos and Nicole Ann Garcia combined in a big third quarter charge as La Salle pulled off a stunning 52-45 win over defending champion Far Eastern University to clinch a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinal round of the second Dickies-FCBL (Filipino-Chinese Basketball League) Women’s Cup at the Philippine Buddhacare Academy gym in QC recently.
Piatos led the Lady Archers’ fightback with 15 points and finished with four rebounds, four assists and two steals while Garcia scored six of her 13 points in the fourth quarter that helped thwart FEU’s rally.
La Salle’s win created a four-way tie for second with College of St. Benilde, University of Santo Tomas and FEU at the end of the single round elims at 4-3 in the event backed by Smart Telecom, Powerhouse, CW Home Depot, Jumbo Plastic Linoleum and Hapee Toothpaste.
Due to its superior quotient, CSB, despite losing to UST, 60-58, finished second with La Salle and FEU taking third and fourth places – all enjoying twice-to-beat edges against their respective quarterfinal opponents.
Adamson, as expected, topped the elims with a 6-1 mark after beating Ateneo, 58-54, while Lyceum downed Centro Escolar University, 69-49.
In the quarters, Adamson battles Ateneo, La Salle takes on Lyceum, FEU collides with UST and CSB faces CEU.
