The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Action in the Philta-Palawan Pawnshop Regional age-group tennis tournament resumed in Kalibo, Aklan yesterday with another banner field vying for top honors in various divisions.

The event ending Monday serves as the third leg of the 27-stage, nationwide circuit put up by Palawan Pawnshop and Technosports to help develop the sport and produce future national team players.

“We expect another big field to compete in the third leg and we hope to produce another batch of young but talented players,” said Palawan Pawnshop COO Bobby Castro.

Guillermo Nocom, president of Technosports, exclusive distributor of Babolat, lauded Philta’s continuing effort to boost the development of the sport where Filipinos can be at par with the best in the region. Events on tap are the boys and girls 12-, 14-, 16-, and 18-and-under divisions and the 10-unisex category.

From Aklan, the circuit moves to Negros Occidental for the fourth leg, a Group 3 tournament, on Feb. 8-11 in La Carlota City with the fifth stage, also a Group 3 event, set Feb. 14-18 in Bacolod City.
