PFF taps Korean ball for Smart Club tilt

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Football Federation has tapped the Star New Polaris 2000 as its official ball in the ongoing Smart Club National championships, which is now entering its exciting homestretch at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

“We are honored by the PFF for the privilege in using the Star New Polaris 2000 as the official ball of the Smart Club Championships,” said Jun Lim, marketing director of Topcoms, the local exclusive distributor of the Korean-made ball that meets FIFA’s strict quality standards.

The all-weather ball, made of premium synthetic leather with a multi-treatment layer and a latex bladder at its core for superb air retention, was used last weekend during the Smart Club quarterfinals, highlighted by Bacolod-based Ceres’ stunning 1-0 upset of UFL League champion Global.

The Ceres booters will battle UFL powerhouse Kaya while Pasargad takes on the Chieffy Caligdong-led Green Archers United in the other semifinals clash this Saturday at the Rizal Memorial pitch.

According to Lim, the ball was also the official one used  during the 2012 Palarong Pambansa football tournament held in Lingayen, Pangasinan while the PFF used the Star New Polaris 3000 during its selection tournament for the Teen Azkals, the national Under-19 squad, in Bacolod also last year.

Overseas, Star footballs are also the official match balls of the Chinese Women’s Super League, and the Korea Women’s Football League, he added.
