MANILA, Philippines - Ernie Gonzales of Inquirer scored a net five-under-par 67 to win the Maddogan year-end golf tournament at Wack Wack’s West course recently.
Playing with a handicap of 22, Gonzales, an original member of the group put together by the late great Crispa bossman Danny Floro in 1984, beat Jun Engracia, also of Inquirer, by four for the crown.
Musong Castillo, another Inquirer bet, placed third with a 72 from a gross of 85 under the System 36 format. He, however, gained the low net honors in the second event of the day hosted by Wack Wack president Philip Ella Juico.
Sherwin Yu, a club member, won the low gross event with an 82.
Ding Marcelo of Bulletin carded a net 73 and finished fourth in the Maddogan tournament with Virgil Villavicencio, the media bureau chief of the PLDT sports group, finishing fifth with a 74.
Maddogan president Bing Jaleco said an anniversary tournament will be held in March possibly at the Veterans course in Quezon City where the group was first formed.
