STAR Group shoots for MBL crown

MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion Star Group of Publications seeks back-to-back title when it plays PRC Couriers in the MBL Corporate Cup 2 basketball championship at the San Andres Sports Complex in Malate, Manila tonight.

Gametime is 7 p.m. with the Star Group needing only to win once to capture its second straight MBL crown.

Handled by coach Alfred Bartolome and manager Mike Maneze, Star Group completed an eight-game sweep of the elims to clinch the twice-to-beat incentive in the finals.

PRC made it to the finals with a 5-3 card.

The Starmen defeated the PRC side twice in the elims, including a scrambling 75-72 win last Nov. 8 and a 101-93 victory last Dec. 3.

Expected to lead the Starmen’s title-retention bid are veteran Nino Marquez, Jhong Bondoc, Chris Corbin, Ver Roque, Dennis Rodriguez, Gio Coquilla, Ian Sanggalang  and Randell  Reducto.

PRC, on the other hand, will lean on Erwin Sta. Maria, Mar Reyes, Anthony Cuevas, Edwin Asoro, Dennis Lim, Doods Litonua, Mel Mabigat, Norman Goco and Macky Villarta.
