Douthit to stay with Gilas despite overseas offer?

MANILA, Philippines – Naturalized player Marcus Douthit said he is “hoping” to stay with the Smart Gilas national basketball team despite receiving an enticing offer to play elsewhere.

In his Twitter account @DouthitMarcus, the Providence College product disclosed that he has received an offer to play overseas but did not go into specifics.

Asked about how much he was offered, Douthit just replied “a lot”.

Nevertheless, the 6-foot-10 Gilas slotman reiterated his loyalty and desire to lead the Philippines back to prominence in the world basketball circuit.

Douthit was supposed to be the import of the Talk n Text Tropang Texters in the coming PBA Commissioners Cup but was apparently released by management so he could focus on his Gilas stint.

The Philippines will host the 2013 FIBA Asia Qualifiers, where the top three finishers will qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain next year.
