The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Swimming League, the national sports association for swimming under the Federation of Sports Schools Associations of the Philippines (FESSAP), has appointed La Salle-Dasmariñas athletic director Gerardo Sergio III PSL regional director for Calabarzon, comprising Cavite, Laguna,  Batangas, Rizal and Quezon.

PSL president Susan Papa said Sergio was a first choice because he has both the technical expertise and the “heart and passion for sports.”

“He will be of great contribution to our swimming program in the region and it’s a great honor having him on our roster,” said Papa.

Sergio brings with him his experience as director, sports development office of DLSU Dasmariñas for six years. He was also president of the NCRAA, current PRISAA IV-A regional executive director and head of the FESSAP athletes commission.

Papa formally announced the appointment during the 37th leg of the PSL Swim Circuit, dubbed La Salle Swim Invitational, yesterday.

The event, the first in a series of competitions of the PSL for the year, drew participants from Zambales, Olongapo, Pangasinan, Bicol and the rest of Region 4  and National Capital Region.

Sergio will be sending seven La Salle-Dasma swimmers to the Summer Universiade in Kazan, Russia this July to give La Salle’s most promising swimmers an international exposure and a chance to compete among the best student swimmers in the world.

“De La Salle Dasmariñas aims to be the training center for the national team competing in the  Universiade. It will be a big task and a challenge,” said Sergio.
