Younghusbands, Muros to grace La Salle oval inaugural rites

MANILA, Philippines - De La Salle University-Dasmariñas will inaugurate its newly renovated rubberized track oval on Jan. 24 at 9 a.m. with Azkals mainstays Phil and James Younghusband gracing the event in Dasmariñas, Cavite.

The 400-meter, eight-lane seamless track oval boasts of dimensions and surface properties according to the standards set by the International Amateur Athletics Federation.

Joining the Younghusbands in the unveiling of the symbolic marker is DLSU-D president Br. Gus Boquer FSC, EdD.

The 100-meter ceremonial run will be led by former track queen Elma Muros-Posadas along with representatives from various sectors of the DLSU-D community, including Kids Foundation president actor Diether Ocampo.

Former Philippine Sports Commission chair Dr. Philip Ella Juico, president of the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club, will also grace the affair along with Cavite officials.

The Younghusbands will also conduct a football clinic with the Lasallians of DLSU-D.

The first athletic event to be held at the new oval is the DLSU-D Jubille track and field meet after the football clinic. Participating schools from the Calabarzon are De La Salle Lipa, Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas, University of Perpetual Help System-Dalta, Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation, Cavite State University, and St. Michael’s Institute, among others.

The DLSU-D Jubilee track and field meet is part of the university’s celebration of its 25th year as a Lasallian School and 35th year as a higher education institution.
