The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Letran and Emilio Aguinaldo College got past their respective rivals to remain on top of their respective divisions in the ninth Fr. Martin Cup Collegiate Open basketball tournament at the Trinity University of Asia gym in QC last Sunday.

The unbeaten Knights weathered a late rally by the University of Perpetual Help-A Altas and escaped with a 69-63 triumph for their fifth straight.

John Tayongtong showed the way with 14 points for the Generals, who blasted the University of Perpetual Help-B side for a 3-1 card in Group B.

Earlier, Jayson Ibay banged in 16 points for the Informatics Icons, who repulsed the College of St. Benilde-A Blazers, 59-56.

The Knights, led by Kevin Racal and JC Po with 18 and 16 points, stayed unbeaten in Group A as they zeroed in on the first quarterfinal seat.

Commissioner Robert de la Rosa said the top six teams in each bracket will advance to the quarterfinal round.
