Ferrer, Kohlschreiber to meet in Auckland final

The Philippine Star

AUCKLAND, New Zealand (AP) — David Ferrer has a chance to win a fourth Heineken Open tennis title Saturday when he meets Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber in the final.

Top-seeded Ferrer beat Gael Monfils 6-1, 6-2 in barely 50 minutes Friday to claim his place in the final. He now has the opportunity to match the record of Australian tennis great Roy Emerson by winning the Auckland title four times, including three-straight championships.

Second-seeded Kohlschreiber had a much tougher task to reach the final, having to tame the powerful serve of fourth-seeded American Sam Querrey before winning 6-4, 7-6 (2).

Kohlschreiber will be attempting to win in Auckland for the second time after claiming the 2008 singles crown.
