Lingayen Open chess up

MANILA, Philippines - The Lingayen Open chess tournament, dubbed Mayor Josefina Castañeda Chess Cup, gets under way this weekend with a big field expected to vie for top honors at Lingayen Municipal Hall in Lingayen, Pangasinan.

The event features the Open category, which stakes a top purse of P4,000, and the Under-16 class which offers P2,000 to the winner.

Mayor Josefina Castañeda, Juan Sison and Tom Ferrer will grace the opening rites.

Meanwhile, Grandmaster John Paul Gomez ruled the recent fourth Gov. Amado Espino Jr. Open Chess Cup with a six-point output.

Registration is ongoing.
