Torres, Cho top Eagle Ridge year-ender

MANILA, Philippines - Rolando Torres and Cho Jeong-sook set tournament low scores of net 10-under-par 62s in winning their respective divisions in the final monthly members event of the year of the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club in Gen. Trias, Cavite recently. 

Torres, firing  a 98 on a handicap of 36, took the seniors 1 event by just a stroke over Rupert Pangilinan, a 30-handicapper who assembled a  93 for 63.

Cho, carrying a handicap of 19, turned in an 81 to beat compatriot Jung Soon-hak by three strokes in the ladies 1 category. 

Another Korean expat, Jung Kyung-young, romped off with the Class A plum after posting a gross of 76 for a net 66 to beat Kim Won-min, a 9 handicapper who carded a gross 79 for a net 70, by four net strokes. 

Aristeo Agoncillo, Cho Sam-hyun, Ferdinand Marquez, Adelio Domingo and Lourdes Byrne were the other regular member winners of the event. In the dependent competition, Jang Ik-jun and Park Eun-che shared the top awards while Lee Hyo-rin emerged the golf academy winner.

Agoncillo escaped with a one stroke win over Kim Hyoun-jin and Choi Seok-won with a net 70 in Class B, Cho’s 70 was good for a one-stroke win over Joseph Abracosa in Class C, Marquez netted a 64 for a five-shot win over  Ricardo dela Cruz in Class D, Domingo beat Lee Soo-nam by two with his 65 and   Byrne finished two ahead of Divine Sanders in ladies 2.

The tourney at the Faldo and Dye courses capped another series of monthly competitions among members and guests at the country’s biggest golf complex with four championship courses. 

Eagle Ridge also hosted several major events in the jungolf, amateur and professional ranks as well as corporate gatherings.
