Eagles blank Archers, lead women’s football

MANILA, Philippines - Host Ateneo blanked De La Salle University, 2-0, to wrest the lead in the UAAP women’s football Season 75 at the Ocampo field inside the Ateneo campus last Tuesday.

Striker Anne Therese Martin scored on the 35th minute, nine minutes after Cecilia Dayrit knocked in the first goal that set the tone for the Loyola-based squad’s victory that hiked its total to seven points on two wins and one draw.

La Salle failed to strike back in the second half in the face of Ateneo’s rock-solid defense and fell to 0-1-3 win-loss-draw card for three points.   

In the second game, University of Santo Tomas routed University of the Philippines, 3-0, to improve to 1-1-1 slate for four points.

The Fighting Maroons remained winless in three games with one draw for one point.

Joma Clemente and Pearl Aguilar scored on the 16th and 45th minute, respectively, while UP’s Paulina Abadilla delivered an own goal on the 55th minute.
