Maningding, Pery dominate Phl Touring Car

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Uly Maningding of Explorer Motorsports and defending champion Joey Pery of Forex foiled first leg winner William Tan of 2GO-Promethium Racing to claim top honors in the premier Division 1 in the second leg of the 2012 Philippine Touring Car Championship Series (PTCC) at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga recently.

Maningding dominated races 4 and 5 while Pery, a former Miata Cup champion, humbled more experienced rivals in Race 6 of the event organized by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) and promoted by the Philippine Race Car Driver’s Inc. (PRCDI) and co-presented by Tiarra Commercial (Kumho Tires) in partnership with Seaoil Extreme 97, 2GO Travel, Speedlab, Forex, Promethium, Velocity Motors, Honda Cars Caloocan and Aeromed Ambulance Transport.

Tan, who swept the first three races, struggled with his setup throughout the two-day event although he kept the solo lead with 87 points. Maningding and Dwight Kevin Carlos of DKC Racing threatened with 66 and 60 points, respectively.

In Race 4, Maningding quickly grabbed the top spot and held on to the lead to fashion out the wire-to-wire triumph.

He completed the 12-lap race in 27 minutes, 43.089 seconds, 5.829 seconds ahead of runner-up Dwight Kevin Carlos. Tan wound up third while Pery and Taysan, Batangas Mayor Dondon Portugal ended fourth and fifth, respectively. Maningding also dominated Race 5, leading from start to finish with a 23.559-second lead.

Portugal turned in a solid performance and fought back from fifth to third overall on the 10th lap before salvaging runner-up honors as Pery was slapped a 20-second penalty on a “passing under the yellow” violation.

Pery, who actually checked in 19.72 seconds ahead of Portugal, dropped to third while Arnel Carlos of DKC Racing and Tan wound up fourth and fifth, respectively.

Maningding also lead in the first two laps in Race 6 but was slowed down by transmission problems on Lap 10, enabling Pery to grab the top spot on the third lap en route to victory in the 12-lap race with a 4.211 seconds margin over runner-up William Tan.

Portugal and Arnel Carlos checked in third and fourth, respectively, with Maningding dropping to fifth.
