Manila Waldorf School stages inaugural trail run at Timberland

MANILA, Philippines - The Manila Waldorf School expects to draw no less than a thousand participants as it stages the Waldorf Trail Run on Jan. 26 at Timberland Heights in San Mateo, Rizal.

Organizers are to invite members of the triumphant Philippine Dragon Boat Team to lead the cast of runners vying for honors in the 3K, 5K and 10K categories of the event staged to help promote the school and raise fund for the improvement of the school’s sports facilities, among others.

Entrance fee is P400 for 3K, P500 for 5K and P600 for 10K in this benefit run open to everyone who will get to test one’s running skill and endurance amid rolling hills, forested valleys and fresh air of Timberland Heights.

Assembly time is at 5 a.m. at the start/finish line in front of Manila Waldorf School and the Timberland Heights club house. Shuttle buses will be stationed in strategic areas to pick up participants on a first-come first-served basis.

Sponsored by Timberland Heights, Timberland Sports and Nature Club, Health Options and The Philippine STAR, the Waldorf Trail Run held a trial run yesterday morning participated in by some media runners.

“It’s going to be an exciting event with the runners negotiating tricky routes,” said Dennis Alemania after trying the 3K course.

The organizing Manila Waldorf School is the first Waldorf school in the country, founded in 1994 as a kindergarten. A non-traditional educational movement, its philosophy is based on the teachings of Austrian philosopher Dr. Rudolf Steiner on the development stages of childhood and adolescence.

Also known as Steiner school, Waldorf has over a thousand branches in 50 countries around the world.

MWSI is located in Timberland Heights, just 15 minutes away from the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City. It also has a satellite kindergarten school situated in E. Rodriguez, Quezon City.
