Superal drops to third with 76

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Princess Superal hobbled in tough condition and skied to a four-over 76, dropping from a share of the lead to third, seven strokes of Thai ace Benyapa Niphatsopon in the second round of the Kids Golf World Championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Wednesday.

Superal failed to recover from a shaky windup in the first round and stumbled with four bogeys in a birdie-less stint at the wind-raked Glenmarie Golf Club, losing grip of the lead and sight of Niphatsopon, who threatened to pull away with a brilliant three-under 69 for a 139.

The top ICTSI-backed bet, who went five-under after 10 holes in the first round before sputtering to finish with a 70 for a tie with Niphatsopon, settled for a 146, enabling Indonesia Victoria Chandra to assume the challenger’s role with a 142 after a 69.

The Phl’s Sunshine Burberry Zhang, meanwhile, fired a 32 over nine holes for an 81 as she seized a two-shot lead over Thai Phannarai Mesom-us, who had an 83 after a 40, in the girls’ 8-years-old category, also at Glenmarie.

Competitions at Saujana Golf and Country Club, meanwhile, were reduced to 36 holes due to bad weather condition with ICTSI’s Sarah Ababa groping for an 81 to likewise fall by seven shots behind Myanmar’s Yin May Myo, who shot a 74, in the premier girls’ 17-18 division. Nur Islamiah Fuad stood in second with a 78.

In the girls’ 13-14 class, Samantha Andrea Martinez hardly recovered from a 77 with a 76 for a 153 as she remained 10 shots off Kanyalak Preedasuttijit of Thailand, who had a 143 after a 73, also at Glenmarie.
