Eaglets go for two wins in mini cagefest

MANILA, Philippines - Ateneo-A tries to stay within striking distance of defending champion La Salle Green Hills as the Blue Eaglets take on two rivals in the Energen Mini-Youth Ball Metro Invitationals 2012 today and tomorrow.

The Blue Eaglets clash with Don Bosco Technical College at 8 a.m. today before battling Lourdes School Mandaluyong at 10:50 a.m. tomorrow in the Contender division (12-14 age group) at the Blue Eagles gym.

La Salle Green Hills paces the league with a 6-0 record, while Ateneo-A totes a 3-2 slate in the eight-team field.  

In the Mini division (9-11 age group), Xavier School seeks solo second against Ateneo-A at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Blue Eagles Gym.

La Salle Green Hills also remains unbeaten in the Mini division with five wins while Xavier is just behind at 4-1.

Five other games are on tap this weekend in the tournament backed by TaosPuso Foundation and TriDharma Marketing Corp. and organized by MYBall Inc.

Running on its fifth year, MYBall pits eight teams in each division, including some of the top schools from the UAAP, NCAA and Tiong Lian.

Through the league, Energen aims to continue promoting youth sports after bankrolling the Philippine Youth team. 

Other games today pit Ateneo-B against Notre Dame of Greater Manila at 9:20 a.m. in the Contender division; Ateneo-A versus Lourdes at 10:50 a.m. and Ateneo-B against Don Bosco Technical Institute at 1 p.m. in the Mini division.

Ateneo-B, meanwhile, tackles DBTI in the Contender game at 8 o’clock tomorrow and Notre Dame in the Mini division at 9:20 a.m.
