CJH pads lead over Southwoods at compact BCC

BAGUIO, Philippines– Camp John Hay pooled a 105 at the shorter but difficult Baguio Country Club and pulled away by 15 points over Manila Southwoods to move closer to a three-peat in the Seniors Fil Championship of the Fil Am golf invitational tournament here yesterday.

Fred Puckett shot 31 points while Bong Mandapat, Clyde Cabreros and Rudy Lockey added 26, 25 and 23 points, respectively, as CJH totaled 354 over 54 holes and padded its lead to 15 heading to the final 18 holes of the tournament.

Southwoods struggled with a 101 for a 339 as Edmund Yee and Bong Sison made 27 apiece and Poch Hernandez and Florene delos Santos turned in 24 and 23 points, respectively, for the Carmona-based squad.

ABW Megafibers had a 96 for third at 322.

“It’s all over, we’ll be very happy if we finish second,” said delos Santos who made just nine points at the front nine in what he considered his worst performance.

Like in the first two days at John Hay layout, Puckett again led CJH charge at BCC, his 31 giving him a 100-point total and a 10-point lead over Yee in individual competition.

Meanwhile, Noel Yamzon shot a closing 28 at John Hay and led Saver’s Clarkcom to a 104 for a four-day total of 404 and the Fil A Seniors title.
Co-host Baguio Country Club closed with a 99 for second at 374 while Philippine Navy made an 89 for third at 365.

Navy, meanwhile, shot a 101 for a 351 and came from behind to beat BCC for the Am-A seniors crown. The hosts collapsed with a 77 and finished 20 points behind at 331.
