Touring car series under way Dec. 1-2

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The second leg of the 2012 Philippine Touring Car Championship Series (PTCC) fires off this weekend with the country’s biggest names in circuit racing battling it out for top honors at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.

Fancied William Tan and Leo San Juan seek a repeat of their previous feats in their respective divisions as they try to stay on top in the event organized by Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) and promoted by Philippine Race Car Driver’s Inc. (PRCDI) and co-presented by Tiarra Commercial (Kumho Tires) and in partnership with Seaoil Extreme 97, 2GO Travel, Speedlab, Forex, Promethium, Velocity Motors, Honda Cars Kaloocan and Aeromed Ambulance Transport.

Tan guns for a second straight sweep in Division 1 (for 200hp cars) while San Juan hopes to steer his trusty Nissan Sentra race car to bigger victories over his rivals in Division 2 (for 150hp cars).

Also hoping to firm up his title bid is novice driver Alan Arguelles who’s eyeing another triumph over Allen Macaraig in Division 3 (for 100hp cars).

The kickoff races usually set the initial trend on who are likely the strongest title contenders for the season but the coming Race 4, 5 and 6 will provide a clearer view of the championship scenario as this is the stage where other drivers step up and cause a major shake-up in the points standings.

And the new set of technical rules and the new race format using horsepower cap in each divisions made this season even more exciting.  Scrutineering results were made easier as all cars must pass the dyno test after each race using Speedlab’s Dynapack machine.
