Three games kick off MartinCup Sunday

MANILA, Philippines - Fourteen varsity teams will take part in the 9th Fr. Martin Cup Open basketball tournament, which gets under way this Sunday.

A three-game bill will start off the three-monthlong cagefest, which will play its opening games at the Trinity University of Asia gymnasium in Quezon City.

The three-peat champion San Beda Red Lions are back to defending their crown, and will try to claim a fourth straight title.

They will face the Arellano University-B team at 12:30 p.m.

Earlier, the Arellano University-A Chiefs, who fought the Red Lions for the eighth season championship, are also returning, and they will meet the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals earlier at 10:30 a.m.

Far Eastern University clashes with Centro Escolar University in the opener at 9 a.m.

The 14 teams competing are grouped in two brackets.

In Group A, the Red Lions are with University of Perpetual Help-A, Ateneo, University of the Philippines, CEU, Arellano University-B and Letran.

In Group B, EAC is bunched with UPHSD-B, Informatics, College of St. Benilde, Arellano University-A, FEU and Adamson University.
