Lady Altas merciless in straight set win over Lady Cardinals
MANILA, Philippines -- Reigning champion Perpetual Lady Altas showed no mercy against the hapless Mapua Lady Cardinals, 25-3, 25-14, 25-4, in the 88th NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at the San Juan Arena this afternoon.
Honey Rose Tubino led the squad with 13 points, eight coming from kills, along with three blocks, and two service aces to grab the their first win, while reigning MVP Sandra Delos Santos added 12 markers.
The Las Piñas-based belles had a great start in the opening set posting a commanding 21-0 lead until they gave up a point due to an error.
The match was a no sweat for the Lady Atlas that it only took them 47 minutes to close out.
Actually, 18 of the 21 total points of the Lady Cardinals came from the errors of the Lady Altas.
Perpetual snatched the title last season via a 14-game sweep of the eliminations, round robin semifinals and best-of-three finals against Letran Lady Knights.
Meanwhile, the reigning and back-to-back titlist Perpetual Altas duplicated the win with also a straight set victory over Mapua Cardinals, 25-15, 25-19, 25-9.
Jay Dela Cruz, Adam Daquer, and Ralph Diezmo collected 12, 11, and 10 points respectively.
The Lady Altas are now holding a 15-game winning streak, longest since the multi-titled San Sebastian had 19 straight from 2007-2009.
