MANILA, Philippines - La Salle-Taft scored a tournament high 165 points as it steered 54 points clear of rival Ateneo in the Midgets 1 division in the ICTSI-JGFP Inter-School golf tournament at the Ayala Greenfield Estates and Valley courses recently.
Allan Bumagat tamed the short but tricky Valley executive course with a two-under-par gross of 70 for 56 points, Marvin Mendoza tallied a one-under 71 for 55 and Eric Gallardo matched par 72 for 54 in an awesome finish that also showed their firepower for the ongoing intercollegiate league.
Ateneo also rampaged to a 40-point victory over Xavier (125-541) with a closing 147 final round tally and 581 aggregate, with Aidric Chan and Carl Corpus at the helm.
The tournament has the major backing of the International Container Terminal Services, Inc. The other sponsors are Pancake House Group, Sizzlin’ Pepper, Golf Depot, Philippine Airlines and Pancake House Group.
La Salle Greenhills placed third at 453, Learning Links Academy took fourth at 452 and Xavier 2 fifth at 426.
La Salle and Ateneo now have two wins each counting the capture of La Salle Zobel of Girls 2 and Ateneo winning the Midgets 1 earlier. Chan and Corpus finished 1-2 for Ateneo in the Midgets 1 individual race at 208 and 192, respectively, and Mendoza claimed a five-point win over Joseh Uy of College of St. Benilde, 205-200, in seniors play.
