Abad cops silver in Asian duathlon

MANILA, Philippines - Top female duathlete Mirasol Cabelenio Abad bagged the silver medal in the Powerman Duathlon Asian Championships in Putrajaya, Malaysia over the weekend.

After finishing only fifth last year in the annual 11.4 km run, 64 km bike vent, Abad finished with a time of three hours, 23 minutes, 39 seconds to finish second in the Elite female category. She was over four minutes behind Elite female champion Radka Vodickova of Czech Republic but bested Jacqueline Uebelhart of Switzerland for the silver.

In the Elite male category, three Filipino bets made it to the top 10 despite the presence of world-class duathletes with John Chicano ending up sixth with a time of 3:04:34. Robinson Estevez came in seventh in 3:09:48 while John Valdez finished ninth in 3:22:00.

The campaign of the Philippine duathlon team was funded by the Philippine Sports Commission for high-performance training for elite athletes of the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) and Century Tuna.
