Seranillo shines in PSL swim meet

MANILA, Philippines - Nine-year-old  Robin Seranillo exceeded the AAAA American motivational standard time in the 50m backstroke while 15-year-old Ma. Aresa Lipat sparkled in the 50m butterfly as they led promising young swimmers in the 32nd PSL swim meet yesterday at the Rizal Memorial pool.

Seranillo clocked an impressive 36.47 seconds in the backstroke and also timed 45.69 seconds in the 50m breaststroke  and 36.78 in the 50m butterfly in the event dubbed Goodwill Swim Championship, which drew over 500 swimmers and produced 20 new records.

Lipat, from Lipa, Batangas, clocked 30.84 in the 50m butterfly and 33.31 in the 50m backstroke.

Others who exceeded the AAAA standards were 12-year-old Sean Terence Samora in the 50m butterfly (30.41 sec) and 11-year-old McTracy Alindogan of Angeles City in the 50m butterfly (30.47).

The competition was hosted by the Cavite Sailfish Swim Club, spearheaded by coach Edwin Valdez and Noel Dolena.

Philippine Swimming League president Susan Papa said the PSL will have two more monthly competitons left on 2012 calendar – on Nov. 24 at the Rizal Memorial and in December in Bohol.

“We have accomplished what we promised regarding the monthly competitions and we even conducted more than 12 this year,” she said in her opening message.

She added that next year would be a busier season, with nine international competitions and more than 20 local/regional meets on schedule.

“Finally we are happy to inform you all that our swimmers from UAAP showed their prowess and we are bringing Claire Adorna and Gian Berino to Shanghai to start the long course Series of swim competition,” she said.
