MANILA, Philippines - Bo Perasol may end up with the University of the Philippines after all.
A highly-placed source yesterday told The STAR Perasol is being eyed for the Maroons by the group close to sports patron and telecommunication magnate Manny V. Pangilinan where he will join head coach Ricky Dandan as team consultant.
“Consultant actually but it is still being talked about and no decision yet,” the source told The STAR.
Perasol is actually set to take over from Ateneo coach Norman Black, who will move to Talk N’ Text in the PBA after the UAAP, and has reportedly signed a three-year deal with the Eagles.
But things seemed to have changed after Pangilinan severed his ties with Ateneo.
The source, however, did not comment whether or not Perasol, who played for UP from 1990-1995, would eventually take over from Dandan, who has been at the UP helm the last two years.
Under Dandan, the Maroons have compiled three wins in 28 games the past two seasons they considered as developing years since most of their players are relatively young.
“We have to wait for the decision first,” said the source.
Pangilinan has recently pledged P5 million to UP right after parting ways with Ateneo.
With MVP around, and perhaps Perasol at the Maroons’ bench, things could look up for UP, which won its first and only seniors basketball championship in 1986.
