DLSZ off to good start, trips Miriam

MANILA, Philippines - De La Salle Zobel trounced Miriam College Team A, 40-20, to open its title retention bid in the opener of the Milo-sponsored Women’s Basketball League (WBL) at the Fr. Rafael Cortina Gym in Xavier School, San Juan City recently.      

In the other half of the 13-under category action, Saint Pedro Poveda College dominated Miriam College Team B, 38-17.

In Group A of the 17-under developmental category, Colegio De Sta. Rosa Makati overwhelmed Casimiro Ynares Memorial National High School, 21-3, while New Era High School bested St. Mary’s College, 37-18.

The tournament is organized by the BEST Center, Inc., the country’s premier cage school and recipient of the Philippine Olympic Committee Olympism Award.

In Group B, Assumption Antipolo fashioned out a 40-22 rout over Colegio San Agustin Makati while St. James Academy blasted Philippine Women’s University, 37-3.

In the 17-under Competitive Group A action, Southville International School and Colleges beat St. Paul College Pasig, 31-19, while San Beda Alabang and St. Bridget School downed Saint Pedro Poveda College, 38-29, and Montessori Integrated School, 58-49, respectively in Group B.

In the 25-under category, UP Diliman humbled defending champion National University, 37-35, while Don Bosco Technical College bested University of Asia and the Pacific, 55-51, to lead Group A.

In Group B, PWU and St. Scholastica’s College Manila toppled UST, 67-57, and UP Los Baños, 51-48, respectively.
