Tournament of Champs now a British Open qualifier

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The big events are set to explode at the giant Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club with a last quarter storm capping another banner year at the country’s biggest golf complex in Gen. Trias, Cavite.

In October, the country’s best club players are set to return for a series of face-offs in the National Tournament of Club Champions – a three-division competition featuring the men’s, ladies and seniors division champions of at least 36 clubs all over the country.

The annual T of C has even become bigger with Mizuno agreeing to transform it into a two-in-one competition as the 18-hole seeding round on Oct. 22 now serving as its Dream Cup qualifier, the event that will select the country’s representative to the final qualifying event in Japan for a spot in next year’s British Open.

The Dream Cup field will feature winners of several qualifying events all over Asia and the Pacific.

Eagle Ridge being the host offers T of C participants the unique challenge of having to play four different championship courses designed by such greats as Isao Aoki, Greg Norman, Andy Dye and Nick Faldo in one gross play round and five match play days.

November is just as big as the club is also hosting its member-guest invitational on Nov. 16-17 days after the holding of the Philippine Airlines Mabuhay Invitational on Nov. 14.

The annual Fore By Four Invitational is one of only few tournaments offering a car each for the member and his guest in the raffle.
