UB, Bataan Polytechnic jins bag crowns
MANILA, Philippines - University of Baguio and Bataan Polytechnic State University pulled off big surprises in the Smart National Inter-School taekwondo championships, winning the overall championship in four of six divisions at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium recently.
The UB bets topped the grade school girls, grade school boys and junior women’s competition while the BPSU jins prevailed in the senior women’s division.
Only San Beda College and FEU Diliman emerged victorious among Metro Manila institutions.
The FEU bets took the junior men’s crown while the Bedans reigned supreme in the senior men’s group.
BPSU finished ahead of University of the Philippines and San Beda, while the Bedans outperformed Ateneo and St. Paul University of Manila.
UB beat Diliman Preparatory School and SLU-Baguio in the girls’ group, Diliman Preparatory and Lyceum of the Philippines in the boys’ competition and Camarines Sur National High and School of the Holy Spirit in the junior women’s event.
BPSU drew its points from senior women’s novice gold medalists Isabelle Galit (flyweight), Meann Grace Bulanadi (bantamweight) and Adriane Ignacio (heavyweight).
SBC’s senior men advance gold winners were John Devy Singson (bantam), Alfred David Ron (lightweight) and Ron Servito (middleweight).
UB’s gold medalists were Irven Dhale Langaoen (Group 1), Ivan Murray Solimen (G4A), Clyde Benzon (G4B), boys advance; Rain Ramon (G1), Arriana Rocel Babadno (G2), girls’ novice; Angelica Joyce Gaw (fin), Suzzane Glehn Caslangen (lightweight), Shannelle Romuar (welter), Paola Rose Salazar (light-middle) and Brighty Rio Salazar (lightheavy), junior women’s advance.
University of San Carlos campaigners sparkled in the poomsae (forms) competition by bagging three gold medals.
The USC gold medalists were Mary Nichole Maurin (girls), Miguel Calamba (junior men) and Mikaela Calamba (junior women).
