Palawan Pawnshop tennis gets going tomorrow

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Action in the Philta-Palawan Pawnshop Regional Age-Group Championships presented by Babolat resumes tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 28) with the staging of the last of two legs hosted by the Cebu International Tennis Center in Consolacion, Cebu City.

Stefan Suarez of NCR and local ace Jana Pages are expected to lead the cast in the four-day event, seeking to duplicate or better their two title feats in last week’s first leg of the circuit as part of the province’s commitment to help promote and develop the sport.

“We expect another week of top-notch action and new faces to emerge from the tournament,” said Philta regional vice president Jess Lagman.

Suarez and Pages copped the 16- and 18-under crowns in their respective divisions but the duo faces a tougher challenge this time from a slew of players out to foil their back-to-back title bids.

For details, call tournament in-charge Bobby Mangunay at 0195-4046464 or email [email protected].

“We hope to attract more players, especially from the younger ones, to join our series of tournaments which instill the benefits of physical fitness and core values that help address juvenile delinquency,” said Philta president Rep. Edwin Olivarez.

The event, backed by Palawan Pawnshop through COO Bobby Castro and Technosports president Guillermo Nocom, serves as part of the Philippine Tennis Association’s talent-search.

The winners in all categories will be tapped to represent the country in some ITF tournaments in Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and South Korea with all expenses to be shouldered by Palawan Pawnshop.
