MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion Audel “Dr. Drift” Sison of Autocraft Drift Team outhustled five-time former champion Alex Perez on their final run to capture his second win this season and keep hold of solo lead recently in Round 3 of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe Lateral Drift Championship Series 2012 at the Quirino Grandstand.
Sison executed smooth, near perfect maneuvers on his lead run aboard his Goodyear Racing-Monster Energy 1JZ twin turbo powered Nissan S13 Silvia called the “Jawbone” to earn the nod of the judges in the final tandem against Perez and his Nissan S13.5 Silvia.
He swerved in his chase run to avoid a barrier that was hit and taken out of its place by Perez, resulting to the judges’ decision to provide no points for both drivers in the said run. As Sison took his lead run, the judges were more impressed with his faster entry speed, deeper angles and a cleaner line than Perez and unanimously handed Sison bigger points to seal his victory.
“I thank God for the protection and victory,” said Sison.who’s supported by Goodyear Phils., Monster Energy, Fern Inc., Team Repsol, Fontana Hotspring Resort, Dickies, Pampanga’s Best, Lino & 4M Machine shop, Motech, Aguila Auto Glass, Creator Studio, JC Racing, Extreme Concepts Ph., HP Racing, Tent Of Prophets Ministries, CDC, Clark International Speedway and BOSCH Automotive Phils.
David Feliciano of DMF drift in his Nissan Cefiro A31 banked on experience to outmaneuver 2009 Rookie of the Year John Boban of Driftmob aboard his Nissan 180sx.to claim third place.
A festive atmosphere filled the air as spectators, young and old alike, also enjoyed the exciting side activities including the Philippine launch of the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe, driving exhibitions, a very entertaining beat-boxing number by our Miss World Philippines 2012 Queenierich Rehman and an endless cloud of smoke from side-ways, tire-burning drifting action and others.
But the grueling pressure-packed action drew bigger attention from the crowd that cheered for their bet drivers who went through tough ordeals and challenges from the unforgiving track layout layout prepared by Lateral drift President and co-founder Mr. Charlie Cruz and the notorious “Killer Gutters” of the race venue.
These challenging features resulted to several delays as some of the drifters took the early exit following miscalculations that made them fell victims to the “Killer Gutters”.
Sison hopes to pull off another big triumph to boost his quest for a back-to-back crown when the series stages its fourth round on September 29 at the Marikina City Hall.
