Informatics, TIP gain in Martin Cup
MANILA, Philippines - Informatics and Technological Institute of the Philippines came away with back-to-back victories to press their respective bids in the 10th Fr. Martin Division 2 Cup basketball tournament at San Beda gym in Mendiola recently.
Joseph Marquez and Mark Montuano combined for 29 points as the Icons stopped the Arellano University Chiefs, 77-62, while the TIP Engineers drew 18 points from Kim Medina to beat the La Salle Green Archers, 76-68.
The Icons, who earlier routed the Trinity University of Asia Stallions, 87-59, improved to 3-1 in Group B.
Despite the loss, the Chiefs remain in the lead with a 4-1 card.
Joshua Saret and TH Tumalip took charge for the Engineers, who shattered a 59-all count en route to victory, their third against the same number of losses in Group A.
The Green Archers, who got 27 points from Jason Perkins, dropped to 2-3.
In junior play, Far Eastern University-FERN got 28 points from Jason Aquino as it downed St. Joseph-Bulacan, 68-62, for a 3-1 slate in Group B.
San Benildo drew 20 points from Jason Cervantes as it stunned Letran, 82-77, in overtime for a 4-1 slate. Adamson won by default over University of Santo Tomas.
