Marcelo, Suba reign in KF2-KF3 series

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Four-time champ Stefano Marcelo of Marcelo Racing and VJ Suba of Eagle Cement claimed separate victories recently in the 2012 KF2-KF3 Cup Series at the Carmona Racetrack.

Though he already announced his retirement from karting, Marcelo gave in to the itch to race again and proved he’s still in top form as he captured the KF2 crown in Round 5.

Suba, who bagged the top crown in the Asian Karting third leg, took the KF3 title in Round 6.

The event is sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines, supported by the Philippine Sports Commission and sponsored by Yokohama, Coca-Cola, Sparco, Vivere the official home of Asian karters, Motorstar and Aeromed.

The KF3 division saw Estefano Rivera of FERN-C Racing pulling a big sweep of both rounds to boost his pursuit for the overall KF3 plum this season.

Marcelo quickly wrested the front seat from Milo Rivera on the second lap and pulled ahead to preserve his post all the way to the finish line and win the race with a seven-second margin over the runner-up Rivera.

Bobby Domingo of Industria Racing checked in third while Suba and CJ Tsui also of Industria Racing wound up fourth and fifth respectively.

Adjustments on his set-up pivoted Suba’s big show in Round 6 where he grabbed the lead from Rivera on the fourth lap and controlled the tempo the rest of the way for his first KF3 title this season, finishing ahead of runner-up Rivera by 4.653 seconds.

Marcelo took third place while Matthew Chan of FERN-C Racing and Sacha Feliciano ended fourth and fifth.

The victories of Marcelo and Suba hardly affected Milo Rivera’s quest for the overall KF2 plum as he remains on top with a total of 185 points or 63 points ahead of second-running CJ Tsui of Industria Racing.

Domingo is third overall with 87 while Chan and Feliciano follow with 75 and 68 points respectively.

Losing the Junior crown to Japanese Marino Sato in the Asian Karting  third leg, Estefano Rivera vented his ire in the KF2-KF3 Cup, clinching the KF3 plum in Round 5 over runner-up Daniel Miranda, teammate Raymond Cudala and fourth placer Jette Calderon of Red Bull Supreme-Industria Racing.

In Round 6, Rivera pulled ahead early to keep the front seat from start to finish and complete his sweep with an eight-second gap over runner-up Calderon.  Cudala bagged third place while Miranda wound up fourth.

With the sweep, Estefano Rivera wrested solo lead for the KF3 crown with 186 points, just 10 points ahead of erstwhile frontrunner Calderon, who’s slipped to second with 176.  Miranda is third overall with 121 while Cudala is fourth with 80 points.
