Kamayan golfers rout Media, regain Tito Eduque Cup

MANILA, Philippines - The Kamayan Golf Club bounced back strong and trounced Media to regain the Tito Eduque Cup in the 26th Triple V-Media invitational golf classic at the AFP Golf Club in Camp Aguinaldo Tuesday.

Joseph Tan powered the Kamayan golfers’ 13-stroke victory with a 65 as they reclaimed the Cup they lost in a 42-stroke rout by Media last year. Kamayan had a 10-man total of 696 while Media had 709.

Coach Virgil Villavicencio backed him up with a 67 and Mingging Ortiz and Cocoy Vera Perez contributed 69 each in Kamayan’s win. Rounding up the top 10 Kamayan scorers were Ernie Wee (70), Joey Bacani (70), Budjie Coscolluela (70), Boysie Henares (70), Dwight Lago (72) and Rory del Castillo (73).

Ding Marcelo of the Manila Bulletin led the Media effort with a 64, winning the overall title in the Media side tournament. Jong Arcano scored a 69, topping Media’s Class A title by a wide margin over Delfin Perez (75) and Jun Engracia (78).

Class B title went to Anthony Suntay, who scored a 67 to beat Nilo Paurom (68) and Ray Eñano (71). Emy Arcilla was Class C champion with a 72 followed by Albert Garcia (74) and Jake Ayson (75).

The Media scorers were Marcelo, Suntay, Arcano, Arcilla, Ernie Gonzales (74), Garcia, Paurom, Perez and Ayson.

The guest champion was Jonas Lopez, who edged Jera Sison on a countback after they both scored 70s. Ronald Villanueva was third with a 72.

Winners of special prizes were Jonas Lopez (most birdies), Cocoy Vera Perez (most pars), Nils Alcatra (nearest the pin on No. 8), Nilo Paurom (nearest the pin on No. 11), Raul Marcelo (best dressed) and Emy Arcilla (early bird) and Benedict Ang Ban Giok (most accurate drive).
