Suba outsmarts Rivera, tops EK karting

- The Philippine Star

Manila, Philippines -  Ace karter Vencer John Suba held his ground against Estefano Rivera of Fern-C Racing in the final lap to rule the Enchanted Kingdom leg of the 2012 Coca-Cola Karting Super Series at the EK Kart Track in Sta. Rosa, Laguna over the weekend.

The win was second straight for Suba, now with the San Miguel racing team, who won both the ROK Overall and ROK Senior classes of the event held in line with the anniversary celebrations of Enchanted Kingdom.

Coca-Cola, which is also celebrating its 100 years, also came in as the karting series’ title sponsor with support from Automobile Association Philippines, Coca-Cola, Yokohama Tires, Motorstar and Aeromed.

Suba, Milo Rivera and lady karter Sacha Feliciano of Marcelo Racing battled it out for the lead in the final race until Suba wrested control in the 19th lap.

But Estefano Rivera staged a big comeback from the rearend to move up to second and threatened Suba for the top spot.

Estefano Rivera then made a risky move in the last 70 meters, charging into the inner lane to slip past Suba.  It, however, backfired as the slight collision stalled Rivera’s kart as Suba sped to victory despite a damage on his front fender.

Suba completed the 28-lap Final race in 15 minutes and 7.698 seconds to clinch the ROK overall and ROK Ssenior crowns by 2.261 seconds over Milo Rivera.

CJ Tsui of Industria Racing checked in third while Feliciano and Matthew Chan of FERN-C Racing ended up fourth and fifth, respectively.

Estefano Rivera still emerged champion in the ROK junior division over Daniel Miranda of Cebuana Lhuillier and Jaz Monzones of Natmo Asia-GP1 Racing.

Feliciano also bagged the ROK Cclubman title over Monzones.

Nike Mora of Red Bull Supreme Racing Team also scored a double by winning the SQ Expert class over teammate and runner-up Don Batino, Japanese Takehiko Kuchikata and Jerry Choi Acuna. He also topped the SQ Veteran division over Kuchikata, Acuna and Oliver Soto.

Luis Gono copped the SQ Novice plum over runner-up Jomar Ang of San Miguel Corporation, Soto and Michael Bonafe.
