UST, Ateneo junior teams blast rivals

MANILA, Philippines - UST disposed of Adamson, 80-69, while Ateneo waylaid De La Salle-Zobel, 86-64, at the close of the first round elims in the UAAP Season 75 junior basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan yesterday.

Alvin Ungria scored 21 points and pulled down 17 rebounds to power the Tiger Cubs to their third straight and fifth overall in seven outings.

UST thus kept within reach of unbeaten squads National University and Far Eastern University-Diliman, who both have 6-0 slates.

The Bullpups-Baby Tamaraws game, a rematch of last year’s championship, will be played on a later date as two of their players are with the national team in the Asia U-18 Championship in Mongolia.

Antonio Asistio shot 17 points, Thirdy Ravena had a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds while Aaron Black also had 15 points as the Blue Eaglets bucked the 34-point burst by DLSU-Zobel’s Renzo Subido.

The Blue Eaglets thus moved up to fourth with a 4-3 card, while dropping the Junior Archers to fifth with a 3-4 card.

In the other juniors match, UP Integrated School notched its second win in seven starts with a 60-44 victory over University of the East.

In UAAP badminton, Ateneo and NU stake their unblemished slates as action resumes today at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall.

In the ties starting at 9 a.m. the Blue Eagles (3-0) collide with UP (2-1), while the Bulldogs face winless UE (0-3).
