Sevillano gains 3rd GM norm

MANILA, Philippines - Enrico Sevillano defeated IMs Melikset Khachiyan and Levon Altounian in the last two rounds to top the 21st Metropolitan Chess FIDE Invitational and obtain his third and final GM result.

Sevillano, the 1986 Asian Junior champion, finished with six points in the nine-round event, a Grandmaster norm 10-player round-robin tournament at the Radisson Los Angeles Airport Hotel in California recently.

He will be conferred his GM title in the FIDE Congress in Istanbul, Turkey coinciding with the World Chess Olympiad later this month.
