FCVBA seeks ASEAN sweep

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Reinforced by former PBA hotshots, the Filipino-Chinese Veterans Basketball Association (FCVBA) will be going for another sweep in the three-division 21st ASEAN Veterans Basketball Tournament slated Aug. 23-26 in Brunei.

While focus will be on its 50-years-old and above team, FCVBA godfathers – Terry Que of Welcoat House Paints, Jimmi Lim of Ironcon Builders and Edward Tio of Freego – also vowed to snare the 60-years-old-and-above crown.

“We have prepared long and hard for this tournament,” said Lim. “We know some teams have also firmed up their squads but we also did our assignments very well.”

The 50-years squad is eyeing a record fourth straight championship. Tio will now call the shots for its 50-years-and-above team with Joel Yap.

Que will banner the 60-years-and-above team along with former PBA hotshots Lim Eng Beng and Bong dela Cruz, Zotico Tan and Cheng Ka Lee.

EJ Feihl and Johnedel Cardel will spearhead the back-to-back bid of its 40-years-and-above team along with Achit Kaw and Bong Tan.

Expected to provide firepower for the 50s are Elmer Reyes, Gabby Velasco, Kenneth Yap, Rudy Yu, Terry Saldana and former Letran star Jerry Gonzales.

Other members of the 50-years are former Crispa back-up center Noli Banate, Julio Cruz, Conrad Siy and Morris Lee while Peter Ley, Jimmy Ley and Antonio Go will provide additional power for the Que-led 60 years squad.
