Rains reset NCAA, UAAP games

MANILA, Philippines -  Collegiate basketball was not spared by the heavy rains as the NCAA and UAAP postponed their respective seniors games.

The NCAA Management Committee (ManCom) announced its basketball matches scheduled for today and Saturday at The Arena in San Juan City will instead be played on a later date.

For its part, the UAAP, through its Twitter account, said that the men’s games originally set for Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 11 and 12) will be played the following weekend (Aug. 18 and 19).

In a statement circulated yesterday, league Management Committee chair Fr. Vic Calvo, OP, of Season 88 host Letran explained that some member schools were also being used as evacuation centers for the flood victims.

“Due to the recent weather condition brought about by the monsoon rains and in consideration to the recovery situation in flooded areas and while other NCAA-member schools are being used as evacuation sites, the Management Committee has decided that the NCAA basketball games scheduled on Aug. 9 and 11 (Thursday and Saturday) be postponed,” he said.

Calvo said they will meet tomorrow to discuss the rescheduling of the cancelled games.

“The ManCom has yet to decide on the new game schedule in their meeting tomorrow. Let us continue to pray for everyone’s safety. St. Dominic pray for us,” he added.

The UAAP also announced that the men’s double-header (DLSU-AdU and UE-UST) originally set for yesterday has been moved to Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The league, however, said the juniors matches tomorrow at the Filoil Flying V Arena will push through as scheduled.
