Torre to grace Manahan chess
MANILA, Philippines - Grandmaster Eugene Torre has been invited to be the guest of honor in the first Fely Manahan chess tournament on Aug. 12 at the Lower Level of SM City Bicutan.
Torre’s presence is expected to inspire the participants in the seven-round Swiss system active tournament organized by the Chess Museum, the Paranaque Chess Association and Barangay Don Bosco Chess Club.
Torre will be making a record 21st appearance in the Chess Olympiad set in Turkey later this month along with the country’s leading players, headed by GM Wesley So.
Manahan, a former Assistant Governor Rotary Chapter 3830, is a staunch sports supporter and added chess in her projects, that also include arnis, for the Paranaque youths.
