AUTS bets shine in Asian karting

MANILA, Philippines - The AUTSRacing team held its ground against tough international field and came up with respectable finishes in the Philippine leg of the Asian Karting Open Championships Series at the Carmona Racetrack in Cavite recently.

Young karters Brian Thorp and Francis Tanlu shone for the team with a pair of runner-up finishes and two third place efforts along with Carl Luig and lady karter Yvana Carangan.

Thorp, 13, rallied to finish second in the Yamaha Cup Juniors, upstaging all the senior karters in the combined race to likewise post a second place finish in the Formula SL Novice division with 244 points.

Tanlu also put up a gallant stand in the Final race to place second in the Formula Cadet Novice and remain second overall in the local series with 240 points.

Luig bucked injury in the practice session and finished third in the Yamaha Cup Juniors for the overall lead in the Formula SL Novice class with 290 points.

Carangan placed third in the Yamaha Cup Seniors to stay second overall in the Formula SL Expert class with 267 points for the AUTSRacing team powered by Kipling’s, Birel Competition Karts, Yamaha Winforce, Maynilad Water Services, Powerade Ion by Coca-Cola Bottlers, Kart Care Lubricants and FreeLine Go Kart Parts.
