Record IronKids triathlon gets going

LAPU LAPU CITY, Cebu, Philippines  – The third edition of Alaska IronKids Philippines Triathlon, the children’s version of the world-renowned Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines, fires off today with a bigger participation, tougher challenge and a brand-new race course in this city housing the historic Lapu Lapu shrine in Brgy. Mactan.

A total of 139 kids aged six to 14 years – the biggest in three years – will clash for this year’s title in the event starting and ending at the beach front of the Shangri-La Mactan Resorts and Spa grounds here.

The one-day race will cover 100 meters of swimming, three kilometers of biking and one kilometer of running for the young ones and 300m swim, 10k bike and 2k run for the older ones, who could grow up competing in the Cobra Ironman 70.3 in the future.

“It’s more exciting this year because we have bigger participation, which means tougher competition,” said Alaska IronKids Phl race director Ani de Leon yesterday.

A year-long sporting event, Alaska IronKids Phl has so far completed four legs this year at the University of Makati, Mall of Asia, the Palms Country Club and Pico de Loro, Batangas.
